Dear
colleagues,
Firstly
let me pay tribute to my colleagues in the executive
for their hard work and professionalism. Their dedication
and enthusiasm is a credit to British karate. It is
largely due to their support and grasp of international
politics that prevented British karate from spiraling
into a global wilderness.
Karate
England embarked on a confrontational path with the
WKF resulting in a proposed expulsion of all four
nations from the WKF. This decision was to take place
within 48 hours at a WKF emergency executive meeting
in Norway .
Delicate
negotiations in Norway , earned us a reprieve. Further
meetings in France and Finland convinced the WKF that
Britain was indeed a trusted and loyal member and
entante cordial was restored.
We
welcome Mike Dinsdale on to the executive. Mike's
experience and knowledge of the WKF will be an important
addition to the BKF and further re-inforce our commitment
to the WKF.
Domestically
the BKF championships continue successfully, with
a strong senior event and the juniors showing massive
potential in only its third year.
The accreditation of BKF referees is important and
will raise standards in all disciplines in our championships.
On
the coaching front, representatives of all four nations
are scheduled to meet in the coming months to discuss
the UKCC accreditation.
Tele-conferencing
remains an important tool in our dialogue with each
other, and approved funding for an official website
has been agreed and could prove beneficial with varios
links including the 4 nations websites.
The
Commonwealth Karate Championships and inclusion in
the Commonwealth GAmes proper require a unified strategy.
This is high on our agenda and we aim to
identify individuals who will pursue this goal with
vigour.
